Workplace Accidents Occur Everyday

Workers on the job have been struck by vehicles or machinery, fell from great heights or were electrocuted, leading to their deaths. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that in 2022, there were 1,069 construction fatalities, a 7.7% increase from 986 construction fatalities in 2021. But many of these deadly accidents might have been prevented.

According to OSHA, effective safety controls protect workers from workplace hazards by:

  • Helping to avoid injuries, illnesses and incidents,
  • Minimizing or eliminating safety and health risks,
  • Helping employers provide workers with safe and healthy working conditions.

To help employers accomplish the goal of providing a safe workplace, OSHA initiated its Safe + Sound year-round campaign to encourage safe workplaces.

Safe + Sound Campaign

OSHA’s program aims to ensure every workplace has a safety and health program that includes management leadership, worker participation and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards. The initiative supports employers by providing resources so employers can develop their own safety programs.

To further the reach of the campaign, it is promoted each August during Safe + Sound Week.

Safe + Sound Week

This year, Safe + Sound Week 2024 occurs August 12-18. It is a time to act and reflect on and recognize the efforts that have been made to improve workplace safety and health throughout the year. By participating, businesses around the country get the opportunity to show their commitment to workplace safety and health. Employers who complete events and challenges receive a virtual certificate or coin that can be used on their websites and in marketing.

Employers are encouraged to participate in Safe + Sound week, which can lead to fewer workplace accidents – ultimately improving sustainability and their bottom line. The event can help get your program started, energize an existing one or provide a chance to recognize your safety successes.

All organizations can participate. Last year, more than 3,900 businesses helped to raise awareness about workers’ health and safety.

Employers simply need to sign up, find materials and activities and then get recognized for their participation.

Arcoro Offers Safety Solutions

Participating in special safety events, like Safe + Sound Week, helps employers emphasize the importance of consistent safety training. Training employees on how to spot and eliminate hazards can go a long way towards preventing accidents. Plus, year-round safety training helps employers remain compliant with any local, state or federal safety regulations.

Arcoro partners with safety solution providers to help our clients easily manage their safety programs, while our Learning Management System allows administers to pre-load and supplement training programs, like those from our partners, and tracks completions for each employee.

For example, our partner SkillSignal is an all-in-one solution that connects foremen, superintendents, project managers and safety pros to safety goals and requirements giving construction companies total oversight and control. It offers features like site safety orientations, videos, toolbox talks and incident reporting.

And, ClickSafety offers OSHA training courses that not only help reduce the risk of injury but keeps you compliant with federal safety regulations. ClickSafety is the first authorized OSHA 10 and 30 Outreach Training online provider.

Whether during Safe + Sound week or throughout the year, a safe jobsite is important.
